Description

Water in CO2 incubators and water baths is preset to microbial contamination. WaterShield™ protects the water in those reservoirs from microbial growth.

Broad Applicability

WaterShield™ can also be used in regular water/heating baths and is compatible with common laboratory surfaces, e.g. tin plated iron, chrome, nickel steel, high grade steel and copper.

No cell toxicity

The water additive contains quaternary ammonium compounds and surfactants as disinfecting and cleaning ingredients, but no aldehydes, phenols, alcohols or azides. The reagents do not evaporate. All ingredients are safe and do not cause any irritating effects to the skin when used in the recommended concentration. No unpleasant odour noticeable.

Broad inactivation range

WaterShield™ is active against most bacteria, mycoplasma, protozoa, algae, fungi, and yeast.

Easy to use

Simply add the content of a 5 ml bottle of WaterShield™ directly to one liter of deionized water.

Stability

The reagent is usually active for 4 weeks. A blue stain indicates the status of the additive. In case of increasing bioburden a renewal of the water and the additive is required.

Scope of Application

Applicable in research and industry only. Not recommended for clinical applications. Do not use with acrylic glass or aluminum surfaces.

Additional information

We have a problem with our incubator. Something keeps growing inside our incubators. Can you give us suggestion how to clean and control this problem, please.

We like to suggest the following procedure:1. Remove all racks and trays and clean them in a dish washer.2. Switch off the incubator and let it cool down. Spray the inside of incubator wet with Mycoplasma Off or wipe it off with Mycoplasma Off Wipes or any other disinfectant containing alcohol >56 % (v/v) and glutaraldehyde. Let it air dry. Keep the door open for evaporation for at least 1 hour or preferably overnight. If your incubator is equipped with a heat inactivation procedure, start this procedure instead. Keep the racks and trays inside. Don´t forget to remove the CO2 sensor if necessary.3. If your incubator is equipped with a copper inlay, do not polish the interior. Copper oxide is bacteriostatic. Polishing will remove this coating.4. Reload the incubator. Use aqua dest. for the pan and add WaterShield.5. For general operation, use plastic trays underneath your culture flasks to avoid spills during loading/unloading.6. Use culture flasks with vent filters and keep the caps tight instead of standard flasks with open caps.
