Benefits of Venor®GeM-qEP
Test PrincipleVenor®GeM-qEP can be used for the detection of
mycoplasma DNA in biological samples, like cell cultures. The specific
primers amplify nucleotide sequences within a highly conserved region
of the 16S rRNA gene specific for Mycoplasma species, M. pneumoniae
and Acholeplasma laidlawii in individual PCR reactions which
can be processed in the same cycler run. To rule out the presence of PCR
inhibitors in the sample, an internal control is included in Venor®GeM-qEP.
Venor®GeM-qEP can also be used with UNG for carry-over
prevention. The optional Quantification Standards (page 66) provide titrated
DNA for the quantification of the mycoplasma DNA load in the sample.
BackgroundMycoplasma are known to cause a variety of human and animal diseases, and
in the laboratory, mycoplasma are often found as common contaminants in
cell cultures, virus stocks, and other cell-derived biologicals. Mycoplasma
contamination is a recurring problem that can cause non-reproducible results
in research and productivity losses of up to 50% in industry, which can
be avoided by routine diagnostic testing. Also, testing for mycoplasma
infection is now an essential requirement in reaching quality control
standards for laboratories concerned with the production and maintenance
of cell lines used in manufacturing various biologicals. Kit Components
We highly recommend our reliable hot-start MB Taq DNA Polymerase for PCR detection of mycoplasma (Cat. No. 53-0200). Venor®GeM-qEP kit commponents are
lyophilized and at +2 to +8 °C maintainable for at least 12 months.
